Poros was never left bare but was finished with fine stucco and slipped or painted. At Corinth, Rhodes, and Syracuse, building stone was quarried very near its ultimate destination. Corinth exploited the oolitic limestone of fossil dunes that traverse the area. Extensive quarries have been explored to west and east, and evidence of quarrying is plainly visible all around the Archaic temple at the center of the site (Lolos 2002; Hayward 2003). Corinthian quarries produced a surplus, and the use of Corinthian stone at Epidauros and Delphi is well attested (Lolos 2002: 206).
