Ann Macintosh Napier college, united kingdom The papers during this quantity are the refereed program papers awarded at ES2000, the 20th SGES overseas convention on wisdom dependent structures and utilized synthetic Intelligence, held in Cambridge in December 2000. The scope of the appliance papers has extended over contemporary years to hide not only leading edge functions utilizing conventional wisdom established platforms, but additionally to incorporate purposes demonstrating the full variety of AI applied sciences. This quantity includes 13 refereed papers describing deployed purposes or rising functions, including an invited keynote paper by means of Dr. Daniel Clancy of NASA Ames learn Centre. The papers have been topic to refereeing by means of at the least "expert" referees. All papers that have been arguable for a few cause have been mentioned intensive via the applying Programme Committee. For the appliance circulation, a paper is appropriate no matter if it describes a method which has no longer but been put in, supplied the appliance is unique and the paper discusses the categories of items that might support others desiring to resolve an analogous challenge. Papers were chosen to focus on severe components of good fortune (and failure) and to offer the advantages and classes learnt to different builders. Papers this 12 months disguise subject matters as assorted as: KBS for keeping offshore structures; info Mining to foretell company enterprise failure; built-in AI innovations to help box carrier engineers; traditional Language utilized to the information defense Act; wisdom administration and the appliance of neural networks.

Concept diagrams are also composed of nodes and arcs that have similar functions. Concept diagrams can be used to describe fairly complex concepts and are suitable for both machine and human interpretation. They are seen as a knowledge representational method that employs graphical structures (Sowa 1984). There is a body of work relating to concept diagrams and their use as a graphical logic (Sowa 1993). This offers interesting opportunities for future work on knowledge mapping by creating the framework that could allow knowledge maps to be transformed into other machine understandable representations such as the Knowledge Interchange Format (KIF) (Genesereth 1992).

Line examples/patterns have already been assigned during the planning stage. A module assigns priorities to all the available words, so that only the most adequate words are considered for each line. The criteria used in this assignation are, in decreasing order of priority: words actually appearing in the corresponding fragment of the intended message, words with the required rhyme for the line. These priorities can be modified once the initial lines have been generated, to include any words in the fragment of the intended message corresponding to previous lines that have not been used in the generation of the actual verse.

The elementary generation units are the line pattern being followed (which acts as guiding form) and the draft of the current line. At each step of the generation the words are chosen to match the next POS tag in the line pattern (always according to their established priority ordering). If the chosen word meets the constructive requirements, it is appended to the draft of the current line and the process is 29 iterated. The constructive requirements are implemented in the form of imperative Boolean functions.
