Valasek (_ 21/ on heat supply to the city of Prague, supplies from several CHP plants and DH plants including long distance piping from the Melnik CHP plant, gives details of hydraulic and thermal regimes of a large system and also methods of laying heat distribution networks. The description of the system is exhaustive and the treatment of the problem is thorough. The effect of a future large nuclear CHP plant is also taken into account. The report of D. Bublitz j_ 23/ on a three-pipe DH system by an electric and energy joint-stock company is of interest.
Two new convectors, which are less expensive and more compatible with operating constraints, were being tested in 1978. They used closed-circuit cooling water. The heating of greenhouses by trickling has yielded excellent results, even with open-circuit cooling water. Soil heating, which is still being evaluated, would appear to be a useful technique for inducing early growth in open field market-garden crops. These experiments are being continued in close co-operation with the professional organizations concerned.
